I find a strange, but delicious enjoyment in taking innocent childhood snack favorites and morphing them into corrupt adult versions of their former selves..lol!

Don’t get me wrong, there’s still room in my heart for boring non-boozy childish fare, but you must admit..adding that booze, putting the kiddos to bed, and then enjoying some ‘immature adult’-time sure sounds like fun!

This time, I decided to ‘buzzify’ some doughnuts.  And not just any old doughnuts..nope!  I’m talking about Root Beer Float Cake Doughnuts, filled with the most incredible drink I can honestly say I’ve EVER had…HARD Root Beer!  If you haven’t tried this yet..STOP right now, and go get some!  Trust me..this stuff is what dreams are made of!   ..GO!

As if a sober Root Beer Float Doughnut wouldn’t have been good enough, the addition of the hard root beer takes them over the top and back again, sending all of your senses into a beautiful and tasty buzz!

Each tender cake doughnut is filled with hard root beer, and glazed with a simple, yet to-die-for Ice Cream Glaze that creates the perfect sweet & sticky bed for fun and colorful sprinkles..with a cherry to top things off, of course!

~CHEERS!

What you’ll need:

The Doughnuts;

2 cups all purpose flour

1/2 cup white sugar

1 tsp. salt

1 TBSP baking powder

2 TBSP butter..melted

1/2 cup Hard Root Beer

1/4 cup Milk

1 egg

oil for frying..I used Canola

The Ice Cream Glaze;

1 cup powdered sugar

2-4 TBSP. Vanilla Ice Cream..melted (amounts will vary depending on consistency, you want this glaze thick)

Sprinkles & Cherries for garnish

Directions:

Heat oil 350-375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
In a large bowl, sift together flour, sugar, salt, baking powder. Mix in butter until crumbly.

Stir in Hard Root Beer, milk and egg until smooth…

Knead lightly, then turn out onto a lightly floured surface. Roll or pat to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut with a doughnut cutter, or use two round biscuit cutters of different sizes…

Carefully drop doughnuts into hot oil, a few at a time. Do not overcrowd pan or oil may overflow. Fry, turning once, for 3 minutes or until golden…

Drain and cool on a wire rack or paper towels…

Now make that Ice Cream Glaze~

In a medium bowl combine the powdered sugar with some of the melted ice cream..

..add the ice cream slowly so the glaze is thick!

Now drizzle that Ice Cream Glaze all over those boozy doughnuts…

You can let them set up this way with no sprinkles…

OR..while they’re still wet with glaze..sprinkle them up all nice and pretty~

So they look like happy, tipsy Root Beer Float Doughnuts..lol

At this point, you will have a crowd of people who now love you gathering around.

~Luckily there will be enough for lots of people…

OR maybe just enough for YOU!!  …with a Cherry on top..of course?!

DIG IN and CHEERS!  ~Enjoy! 🙂
