They support kids, families and food and strive to create a lifestyle around connecting, learning and growing in the culinary playground of the kitchen. What began as a few holiday baking classes and cupcake birthday parties, quickly evolved into much more. Taste Buds Kitchen events now include an ever-growing variety of culinary classes, parties, camps and special events that combine a mix of hands-on engaging recipes, both savory and sweet, for kids and adults.

Taste Buds Kitchen and Spice Islands know that not all spices are created equal. To achieve such rich flavors and premium quality, Spice Islands buys many spices whole, such as black peppercorns from Vietnam, India and Malaysia, and then mills them in its facility to release their rich flavors and capture them in each bottle.  Spice Islands premium spices and seasonings adhere to strict specifications to ensure high volatile oil levels, meaning a higher quality and more flavorful product.  From cultivating long term relationships with farmers throughout the world, to handpicking many of the spices, to maintaining traditions of drying many of the herbs and spices in the sun – tender care is put into each harvest to ensure the highest quality product.

Ground Cardamom

(elettaria cardamomum)

Cardamom, Ground

While many spices come from the fruit of plants, few have as fruity or enticing an aroma as cardamom. Cardamom seeds are found in an oval-shaped pod, the fruit of the plant, and are generally between a quarter of an inch and an inch long.

They have a very strong flavor, with hints of lemon and floral.

We source our Spice Islands® cardamom from Guatemala and Honduras.

Fun Fact: Cardamom use dates back to 4th century BC, when natives of India used it for medicinal purposes. It was also used by Romans as teeth cleaner and breath freshener.

Our Ground Cardamom is only cardamom. Spice Islands® spices and herbs don’t contain added sugar, fillers or other ingredients so you get the most authentic flavor every time.

Chili Powder

Chili Powder, GroundRoasted chiles are skillfully blended with other spices to create our Spice Islands® chili powder. As its name suggests, its flavorful kick is a perfect match to chili and other Latin dishes.

Use it to add fire to your favorite Mexican or Southwestern cuisine, from beans to meat dishes.

Fun Fact: The hotness of a pepper is rated using the Scoville scale, which goes from 0 to 15 million. Although very few peppers manage to break more than a million.

Whole Cloves

(syzygium aromaticum)

Cloves, WholeCloves come from the dried, unopened flower buds of a small evergreen tree native to the fabled Spice Islands.

They have a strong, sweet, fruity taste that’s also sharply hot and pungent. And can leave your mouth feeling a little bit numb.

The warm, lingering flavor of cloves works well with both sweet and savory dishes. But be sure to use them sparingly as their potent flavor and aroma can easily overpower other spices.

Spice Islands® cloves are intensely aromatic with a dark brown color and high volatile oil content.

Fun Fact: In the 1600s, the Dutch gained control of clove production in the Spice Islands by destroying all of the clove trees except those on a single island. Anyone found smuggling out trees was sentenced to death.

Our Whole Cloves are only cloves. Spice Islands® spices and herbs don’t contain added sugar, fillers or other ingredients so you get the most authentic flavor every time.

Serves 4 adults, approximately ½ pear per person

Ingredients

1 ½ cups             red wine

1 ½ cups             water

¼ cup                  sugar

½                          orange, sliced

4                           cloves

1                           Spice Islands® Cinnamon Stick

1                           Spice Islands® Star Anise
