Spring Honey

Good Food Awards Finalist 2016

Spring Honey comes exclusively from our Chesterhaven Beach Farm. Here, our bees pollinate meadows of wildflowers, rows of lavender, and forested land to produce this sweet, sunny, floral honey. Available in limited quantities. Pure, raw, and Star K Certified Kosher.

Spring Honey is Floral, Sweet, and Exclusive to us.

Spring Honey is our estate-grown “Grand Cru” honey that the bees produce during springtime from April to mid-June. We allow the capped frames to cure for a few weeks and harvest somewhere around the second week of July just before the goldenrod starts to bloom. Nothing against goldenrod, it seems to add a layer of complexity that doesn’t flow well with the ultimate floral nose that this honey offers up.

Simply put this honey is absolutely delicious and by far the best-selling honey from our Honey House. We produce approximately 30-40 gallons of this artisanal honey each year regardless of the number of hives we have.

Black locust is one of the largest nectar sources on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. In Europe, it is known as the “Acacia” tree. Our Spring Honey has a lower acid content than other honey. Its high fructose content means that it will stay liquid for a long time.

Bee Inspired Beauty & Raw Honey

Waxing Kara grew organically from my work as an artist. I paint with beeswax, and in 2010, I started beekeeping to harvest wax for my encaustic paintings. I soon learned about the importance of bees to our planet’s sustainability and the preciousness of honey. This knowledge inspired me to expand my role and create delicious honey lollipops and skin-loving bath and beauty goods. Our mission is to sustainably hand craft incredible beauty products. We use natural ingredients that would not exist without bees. We promote a socially conscious message focused on the importance of bees. And we draw inspiration from nature’s bounty and the understanding that putting healthful things into and onto your body makes you feel healthy and beautiful.

What makes our apiary different are the at least 40 acres that we farm specifically for bees. We began by removing the genetically modified crops from the area. In their place we planted high nectar yielding plants, like wildflowers, lavender, fruit trees, bee balm, buckwheat, clover and more. These plants don’t produce crops we can harvest and sell; but not everything is about the bottom line. We maintain these natural habitats to keep the bees happy and thriving. When the bees are happy, we’re all happy. More about Waxing Kara ›
