Before we begin, just go ahead and unbutton that top button on your pants now, and then we’ll get started. There’s no need to put it off~This is one button buster of a dish. I’d much rather you be the one to unbutton it, instead of it popping on its own and flying across the room..lol! This is worth it though, trust me! 🙂
By now I’m sure you’ve all had, or at the very least, thought about having one of those delicious Doritos Tacos from Taco Bell. Those sinful Tacos drain me of every bit of self control I have! So, in an effort to make the temptation easier on myself, I attempted to create an easy to justify, portion controlled, calorie conscious, satisfying duplicate. Well, I failed..doing that only made it harder on me! Unfortunately, what I ended up with was this super delicious, huuuge, {leave-it-up-to-me-to-scoop} giant & bottomless Doritos Taco Casserole. This actually ended up being even tastier than its tiny Taco Bell inspiration!
Layers of seasoned Beef, gooey Cheese, and crispy-turned-tender Tostada Shells, are layered & baked until they become one amazing creation. Oh yeah, and they’re all nestled underneath a blanket of toasted Nacho Cheese Doritos. Yeah…I know, total Taco trouble! 🙂
Don’t be like me and suffer alone, feed a crowd with this winner and suffer together! ~Make two batches..haha!
What you’ll need:
1 lb Ground Beef
Crispy flat Tostada Shells, approx 12 of them, enough to layer.
1 Taco Seasoning packet
Chopped Green Chile, to taste (optional)
1-11oz. bag of Nacho Cheese Doritos, (I used about 3/4 of it)
Shredded Cheddar Cheese..about 3 cups or so
Lettuce, Tomato, and Sour Cream for garnish
…a casserole baking dish, I used 9×13
Directions:
In a medium pan cook up the Beef with the Chiles and Taco Seasoning. Place a layer of the Crispy Shells into the bottom of your baking dish and top it with a layer of the Beef…
Top that layer with some Cheese…
Continue layering until you’ve reached the desired height, and you are out of layering ingredients. Top the whole thing with a nice layer of the Doritos, cover and bake at 350 for approx. 25 minutes…
Remove the cover and continue baking for another 10 minutes, until the chips are crisp and slightly golden. Let it cool a bit…
Serve it up and dig in! ~Enjoy! 🙂
This looks like the greatest March Madness food ever. Totally making it for the games this weekend.
Ugh!! I was craving Doritos something fierce this morning, but fought down the urge. Then I saw this recipe. On the way to pick up a bag of Doritos now ;)YUMMO!!
LOL! 🙂
What do you do with the taco seasoning? It just says to brown the beef with green chiles?
You add it in with the cooklng beef..I included it! ~Thank you! 🙂
Oh that is disgusting. 😉 Where’s my fork??? Heck, just bring me the pan. I will make do. DROOOOOL!
LOL 🙂
Yes! I love Doritos!
Looks delish, I’m planning a birthday party the fist of May! This will be Great with the Bacon Bombs as appetizers! Thanks!
Your last photo shows Doritos on the bottom too! Are we supposed to layer the Doritos too or just on the top?
You can..but I just served it layered. 🙂
Oh my gosh! Totally making this along with my summer sausage cheesy baked bites. This show is absolutely amazing. Thank you for sharing all of these!
I just made a vegetarian version of this, substituting broken up veggie burgers for the hamburger. I also used extra greens and veggies in the finished product so it was more of a Doritos taco bake salad. Everyone loved it! Thanks for posting such a fantastic recipe.
Tried this tonight. What a waste of $28.00 it was so dry and chips almost broke myteeth not recommended.
This sounds good but….why not put the doritos on top of the meat then put the cheese on top of the doritos? The way your suggesting bakes the doritos. Just a thought.
Loads very slowly and print/pdf buttons are attached to something in spanish about pumpkins.
That’s the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen..I can’t figure it out,.lol. Please let me know if you notice it on any other recipes..I’ve checked others, and so far they’re all ok. ..so strange!!
